It Happens by Karan Sharma

GENRES– Ficiton

Rate– 3.5 Stars

Type– Standalone

In India, one cannot easily marry older age women, no matter in what religion he/she is from. Author Karan Sharma have taken a good topic and gives a message thought this novel. After reading, my point of view have become broad open to these topics. He covered most of the questions, one can have while marrying a older age women and vise versa, and how people think about this choices.

I liked the story and pretty much admired it. At sometime I felt Gautam was being immature and was frustrated at him. At the end, the novel was very small for me and I felt due to that most scenes were very much fast forwarded and can elaborate in details. Like with Gautam’s parents.

Gautam, 25 yrs. old, young bachelor, working in multinational bank in Mumbai, falls in love with Roshni, 37 yrs. senior management member working in the same multinational bank. He is in a mind of proposing to her and opens up about this with his friend Rohit. but Rohit, being a good friend put Gautam in different situation (mostly to change Gautam’s decision) regarding his future if Roshni is in it. Is Gautam’s love is true and can he pass from the situation that Rohit have shown him.

The Colours of Passion: Unravelling Dark Secrets behind the Limelight by Sourabh Mukherjee

GENRES– Thriller, Suspense, Mystery

Rate– 5 Stars

Type– Standalone

Thanks writersmelon for this review copy, and my review is honest and impartial.

My Thoughts

I have read Sourabh Mukherjee’s work before and so I picked this one. I am not a suspense/mystery genre reader, but the blur is very interesting and so is the story. First I thought this story might be scary as the character Hiya Sen got raped and murdered by the start itself; I became sensitive once there were any talk or scene about rape….., but once the story went by I got hooked to it and I had to literally stop myself for breaks.

My Review-

Tollywood actor Hiya Sen was married to business man Manav Chauhan, just few days after their wedding, when they were travelling by car with their driver, three men attacks them, and brutally rape and murder Hiya. ACP Agni Mitra investigates this high profile case. And unfolds the criminal mind behind this. As the story goes, he finds many people with reasons for revenge or for their own benefit, cant hurt Hiya and Manav.

There is Neha Awasthi, daughter of family friend to Chauhan’s, whose engagement with Manav got broke off. Then there is Rutuja Bose, actor and co-worker of Hiya, with whom she share film screen and everyone knows things are not good between these two actors. As the investigation had yet to get solve, two more people connecting to this case get murdered. Agni needs to solve puzzles before the criminal fly away.

Some scenes might disturb young readers, but yes I would recommend to read this to adult and young readers, as it shows the darker and meaner side of our world which young readers need to see, as incidents does not just happens only in screens or pages but in real life too and The Colours of Passion is packed with thrill, mystery, and full of suspense.

The Rise of Sivagami (Baahubali: Before the Beginning #1) by Anand Neelakantan

GENRES– Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Mythology

Rate- 4 Stars

Type- Standalone, Prequel

My Review-

Sivagami’s father, the loyal bhoomipathi of Mahishmathi was executed as being traitor when she was five year old. Her father leaves behind a manuscript in secret for her. written in strange, old language. This is the only think she have now of her own to say when her foster family left her in the royal orphanage of Mahishmathi , she vows to kill its king and destroy the Mahishmati kingdom.

Kattappa, the slave., son of slave Malayappa to the current king of Mahishmathi. Kattappa is not smart but loyal to his princes and the kingdom. He must get back his brother’s senses , who thinks they have right to freedom. Kattappa must save his brother from trouble and from thoughts of freedom.

Bijjaladeva, oh! where are my manners… Prince Bijjaladeva (the spoiled) is few months behind to be twenty one year old, age to be free to do what he wants (as if he listen to anyone). He is bad, spoiled, evil, fool, good warrior, nut head.

There are many interesting character some are Mahadeva (Bahubali’s father), King Somadeva (father of Bijjaladeva and Mahadeva), Malayappa and Shivappa (father and brother of Kattappa)….

My Thoughts-

Watched the movie, loved it, became fan (who is not!), while waiting for the second part to be released, found this book and was shocked, yes i was more shocked than being excited. Anand Neelakantan, the author, wrote a book based on a block blaster movie. It cannot be coincident but a well planned to launch this book just a month and so before the release of the sequel of Bahubali. The author wrote this almost 500 pages book in 109 days, including plotting, planning, and drafting. When I couldn’t take longer of waiting to watch the second part,. I took this book. Sivagami is my favorite character, in movie she is that power. The book says story of a teen age girl, who is learning very step and starting to understand around her and as this is a book 1 of the prequel sequel, I will love to see the transformation of sivagami in book 2.

There were many question we fans have about the characters after watched the movie. and my only question was how sivagami was so powerful and humble. I expect the answer in this novel. and as the second book is promised I hope to get answer in that.  Few more questions popped up after reading, being a total opposite characters sivagami and Bijjaladeva, how they end up in marriage and why Devaraya was executed? why Thimma leaving sivagami in royal orphanage? what is the real reason of Kattaps’s ancestor of becoming slaves and the question never ends, maybe only after reading the book 2.

Apart from sword fighting, cutting, killing, dead bodies…. this novel contains adult content (that’s what I call them). so would not recommend this to young readers / young fans of Bahubali movie. The story is in its own entertainment way, related to movie but in its own way. Advise to the reader to read it as a fresh start.

About the Author-

Anand-Neelkantan-686x1024I was born in a quaint little village called Thripoonithura, on the outskirts of Cochin, Kerala. Located east of mainland Ernakulam, across Vembanad Lake, this village had the distinction of being the seat of the Cochin royal family. However, it was more famous for its hundred odd temples; the various classical artists it produced and its music school. I remember many an evening listening to the faint rhythm of Chendas from the temples and the notes of the flute escaping over the rugged walls of the school of music. Gulf money and the rapidly expanding city of Cochin have, however, wiped away all remaining vestiges of that old world charm. The village…..more

ASHOKA – Lion of Maurya (Ashoka, #1) by Ashok K. Banker

My Review-

Growing up hearing about Emperor’s of India it did not took me a second to add this book to ‘want to read’ list and cover is very much attractive and mesmerized.

This is not a history book but its a historical fiction. I loved that it is based on true historians, and did not bored me with all the date and details and facts. I found myself in magnetic chain of reading, now I am in hangover of the mauryavansh world created by the author. Ashok k. banker is indeed a great story teller. He created a world where all women and men are more than gender. loved how he described chandikas, female military who can beat men face to face and can do more than that., Political minds and strategies. Ashok left me with many questions and incomplete thoughts.

One thing to Ashok K. Banker, “when will the second book of this series will be out?”

Yuvraj Ashoka is 2nd in line to Throne, he have no desire to be the next emperor of mauryavansh and when he accidentally overhears assassins plot to a threat his family, family of 100 queen mothers and siblings, he get into ground to stop them with help of chandikas. Chandikas, military of females instituted by samrat Chandragupta Maurya himself. while solving each puzzle, he finds out the threat lies within his own family. with advise of his guru Kautilya, the ex prime minister and the great mind Chanakya, he has to stop the assassins and also save himself from get killed……
