It Happens by Karan Sharma

GENRES– Ficiton

Rate– 3.5 Stars

Type– Standalone

In India, one cannot easily marry older age women, no matter in what religion he/she is from. Author Karan Sharma have taken a good topic and gives a message thought this novel. After reading, my point of view have become broad open to these topics. He covered most of the questions, one can have while marrying a older age women and vise versa, and how people think about this choices.

I liked the story and pretty much admired it. At sometime I felt Gautam was being immature and was frustrated at him. At the end, the novel was very small for me and I felt due to that most scenes were very much fast forwarded and can elaborate in details. Like with Gautam’s parents.

Gautam, 25 yrs. old, young bachelor, working in multinational bank in Mumbai, falls in love with Roshni, 37 yrs. senior management member working in the same multinational bank. He is in a mind of proposing to her and opens up about this with his friend Rohit. but Rohit, being a good friend put Gautam in different situation (mostly to change Gautam’s decision) regarding his future if Roshni is in it. Is Gautam’s love is true and can he pass from the situation that Rohit have shown him.

The Colours of Passion: Unravelling Dark Secrets behind the Limelight by Sourabh Mukherjee

GENRES– Thriller, Suspense, Mystery

Rate– 5 Stars

Type– Standalone

Thanks writersmelon for this review copy, and my review is honest and impartial.

My Thoughts

I have read Sourabh Mukherjee’s work before and so I picked this one. I am not a suspense/mystery genre reader, but the blur is very interesting and so is the story. First I thought this story might be scary as the character Hiya Sen got raped and murdered by the start itself; I became sensitive once there were any talk or scene about rape….., but once the story went by I got hooked to it and I had to literally stop myself for breaks.

My Review-

Tollywood actor Hiya Sen was married to business man Manav Chauhan, just few days after their wedding, when they were travelling by car with their driver, three men attacks them, and brutally rape and murder Hiya. ACP Agni Mitra investigates this high profile case. And unfolds the criminal mind behind this. As the story goes, he finds many people with reasons for revenge or for their own benefit, cant hurt Hiya and Manav.

There is Neha Awasthi, daughter of family friend to Chauhan’s, whose engagement with Manav got broke off. Then there is Rutuja Bose, actor and co-worker of Hiya, with whom she share film screen and everyone knows things are not good between these two actors. As the investigation had yet to get solve, two more people connecting to this case get murdered. Agni needs to solve puzzles before the criminal fly away.

Some scenes might disturb young readers, but yes I would recommend to read this to adult and young readers, as it shows the darker and meaner side of our world which young readers need to see, as incidents does not just happens only in screens or pages but in real life too and The Colours of Passion is packed with thrill, mystery, and full of suspense.

The Rise of Sivagami (Baahubali: Before the Beginning #1) by Anand Neelakantan

GENRES– Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Mythology

Rate- 4 Stars

Type- Standalone, Prequel

My Review-

Sivagami’s father, the loyal bhoomipathi of Mahishmathi was executed as being traitor when she was five year old. Her father leaves behind a manuscript in secret for her. written in strange, old language. This is the only think she have now of her own to say when her foster family left her in the royal orphanage of Mahishmathi , she vows to kill its king and destroy the Mahishmati kingdom.

Kattappa, the slave., son of slave Malayappa to the current king of Mahishmathi. Kattappa is not smart but loyal to his princes and the kingdom. He must get back his brother’s senses , who thinks they have right to freedom. Kattappa must save his brother from trouble and from thoughts of freedom.

Bijjaladeva, oh! where are my manners… Prince Bijjaladeva (the spoiled) is few months behind to be twenty one year old, age to be free to do what he wants (as if he listen to anyone). He is bad, spoiled, evil, fool, good warrior, nut head.

There are many interesting character some are Mahadeva (Bahubali’s father), King Somadeva (father of Bijjaladeva and Mahadeva), Malayappa and Shivappa (father and brother of Kattappa)….

My Thoughts-

Watched the movie, loved it, became fan (who is not!), while waiting for the second part to be released, found this book and was shocked, yes i was more shocked than being excited. Anand Neelakantan, the author, wrote a book based on a block blaster movie. It cannot be coincident but a well planned to launch this book just a month and so before the release of the sequel of Bahubali. The author wrote this almost 500 pages book in 109 days, including plotting, planning, and drafting. When I couldn’t take longer of waiting to watch the second part,. I took this book. Sivagami is my favorite character, in movie she is that power. The book says story of a teen age girl, who is learning very step and starting to understand around her and as this is a book 1 of the prequel sequel, I will love to see the transformation of sivagami in book 2.

There were many question we fans have about the characters after watched the movie. and my only question was how sivagami was so powerful and humble. I expect the answer in this novel. and as the second book is promised I hope to get answer in that.  Few more questions popped up after reading, being a total opposite characters sivagami and Bijjaladeva, how they end up in marriage and why Devaraya was executed? why Thimma leaving sivagami in royal orphanage? what is the real reason of Kattaps’s ancestor of becoming slaves and the question never ends, maybe only after reading the book 2.

Apart from sword fighting, cutting, killing, dead bodies…. this novel contains adult content (that’s what I call them). so would not recommend this to young readers / young fans of Bahubali movie. The story is in its own entertainment way, related to movie but in its own way. Advise to the reader to read it as a fresh start.

Located east of mainland Ernakulam, across Vembanad Lake, this village had the distinction of being the seat of the Cochin royal family. However, it was more famous for its hundred odd temples; the various classical artists it produced and its music school. I remember many an evening listening to the faint rhythm of Chendas from the temples and the notes of the flute escaping over the rugged walls of the school of music. Gulf money and the rapidly expanding city of Cochin have, however, wiped away all remaining vestiges of that old world charm. The village…..more

Cursed & Cherished: The Duke’s Wilful Wife (Love’s Second Chance #2)

GENRES– Historical Fiction,  Clean Romance

Rate- 3 Stars

Type- Standalone

My Review-

“If you touch me, I will kill you!” she hissed, eyes burning with a hatred he had never seen before.

Hearing this from his new wife on the night of their marriage, Edmond Dunsworth did not know why his wife married him if she hate him so much.

Edmond Dunsworth, Duke of Cromwell, is like sunshine. Happy and smiling guy. He is bankrupt and need generous finance. Solution: a wife with sizable dowry. By suggestion, he must chose one from the daughters of a merchant. He does not hope love from this marriage, as he need no love.

Anna Hanford, a merchant’s younger daughter. She must make Duke of Cromwell to choose her in marriage for her sister, to protect her. But will she be able to accept a guy who will marry her for her dowry, he may have her dowry but not her love.

My Thoughts-

Anna is smart, she speaks her mind, have courage to challenge her father. Loves her family, gets married to stranger to protect her sister. All this qualities of her make the reader and Edmond Admire her, she is so right for him. Anna and Edmond’s conservation is so entertaining and funny. Anna challenge him all the time and Edmond accept it with smiling face or sometime get scared of her. I don’t want to be spoiler, go and read it.

Bree Wolf, author of this novel, wrote very well as you cannot think of what-will-happen-next. Till the end I was like I-did-not-see-that-coming. Main female character of Bree wolf are strong willed, like Rosabel from Forgotten & Remembered: The Duke’s Late Wife (Love’s Second Chance #1) click here for review of that novel.

Recommendation- Yes, I would recommend this to everyone, including teens and young adult. This is a clean romance, very much entertainment read.

About the Author-

Amazon bestselling author, Bree Wolf has always been a language enthusiast (though not a grammarian!) and is rarely found without a book in her hand or her fingers glued to a keyboard. Trying to find her way, she has taught English as a second language, traveled abroad and worked at a translation agency as well as a law firm in Ireland. My Review-

Graham Astor, mourns over his death wife, whom he loved dearly and can’t bare to live without. There is one thing he cannot run from, his daughter, who need a mother to love and a parent to guide. Graham must look for a wife (no), mother for this daughter.

Setting his jaw, Graham once more turned to the window. “I am not looking for a wife.”

“I see,” Edmond said, and there was something in his voice that made graham look at him. “Do you?” he asked.

Edmond nodded. “You’re not looking for a wife, but for a mother for Georgiana”

Rosabel wants not to be burden on her uncle, who took her in after her parents. She wishes to be a governess and live an independent life. Until a stranger ask for her hand in marriage and her uncle agrees instantly.

A shiver went down her back as his eyes met hers, and she averted her gaze without another thought as though afraid the cold in his eyes could turn her to stone.” There is something unsettling about him,” she whispered.

My Thought-

Had very much fun reading this historical romance, loved how Rosabel felt for Georgiana (Graham’s daughter), feeling of love and protecting her as her own daughter, for whom she can fight many war with her husband.

Graham is thick coconut head. His damaged heart is so in pieces that he closed all door for love from his daughter and wife. All claps and standing ovation goes to Rosabel for being strong and brave and for breaking cold walls between her husband and his family.

Recommendation- Yes, I would recommend this to everyone, including teens and young adult. This is a clean romance, very much entertainment read.

ASHOKA – Lion of Maurya (Ashoka, #1) by Ashok K. Banker

My Review-

Growing up hearing about Emperor’s of India it did not took me a second to add this book to ‘want to read’ list and cover is very much attractive and mesmerized.

This is not a history book but its a historical fiction. I loved that it is based on true historians, and did not bored me with all the date and details and facts. I found myself in magnetic chain of reading, now I am in hangover of the mauryavansh world created by the author. Ashok k. banker is indeed a great story teller. He created a world where all women and men are more than gender. loved how he described chandikas, female military who can beat men face to face and can do more than that., Political minds and strategies. Ashok left me with many questions and incomplete thoughts.

One thing to Ashok K. Banker, “when will the second book of this series will be out?”

Yuvraj Ashoka is 2nd in line to Throne, he have no desire to be the next emperor of mauryavansh and when he accidentally overhears assassins plot to a threat his family, family of 100 queen mothers and siblings, he get into ground to stop them with help of chandikas. Chandikas, military of females instituted by samrat Chandragupta Maurya himself. while solving each puzzle, he finds out the threat lies within his own family. with advise of his guru Kautilya, the ex prime minister and the great mind Chanakya, he has to stop the assassins and also save himself from get killed……

The Cure was Love by Reet Singh

My Review-

Even thought the story was predictable at sometime I had fun reading it. I had a problem with Simi gill, I was like “girl you worry and think too much, just let it go and go with the flow”. I loved Dr. Rudy, i don’t know from where Reet (author) found him and  does this type of guy even exist in real life. Because he is so handsome, rich, successful, very patient and bonus he have a twin.

Simi gill is a only child brought by her father who is single parent, studying medical  in Bangalore and her father runs plant nursery in Chandigarh. She is in new York for her medical studentship at Sloan Kettering Medical Centre. Due to her not-good-with-alcohol problem she ends up in someone’s room with a… bronzed skin , dark hair sexy.

She had noticed, in a blurred half second, a pair of trousers, distinctly masculine underwear and a tie.

She didn’t possess a blue rug, didn’t wear corduroy – nor manly underwear – and she certainly didn’t own a tie. There was only one explanation- this wasn’t her room

Dr. Rudy Bhatnagar, half Indian, who is a surgeon, his parents are gynaecologist and an orthopaedic surgeon, he is rich and damn handsome. he is guy who are very very very hard to find.

Rudy have his own past  and simi is boken heart.. will they find cure and is the cure is love.

Beauty and the Beast (Timeless Fairy Tales #1) by K.M. Shea

My Review-

Once upon a time, there was a handsome prince… no… a handsome illegitimate price who was cursed by an evil witch.

Prince Severin is cursed to look like a beast (a cat like beast, a black cat) and “…his household to wax away and disappear with him”, until a maiden falls in love with him. Severin have lost his hope, no girl will love a beast.

” Attempting the same activity multiple times and expecting a different result is not only pointless but insane too”.

But not his servant’s, they hope that some girl will break this curse.

Kelle’s one mistake, miscalculation made her fall from the rooftop of an enchanted chateau, broke her leg now she have to rely on the chateau’s people. where there is rumour of a cursed on Prince and his servents.

I had few thoughts before picking this book as Disney’s beauty and the beast is my favourite movie, i was afraid that my love for bella and beast would might change but glad i was so wrong. After reading, I fell in love more for this fairy tale.

“You are staring at me” said Severin

“Well…. I was just thinking,” Elle said.

“Of?” Severin prodded

“You look so much like a cat, it occurred to me. Do you have a tail?”

I love the chemisty between elle and severin, to my surprise prince severin is more calmed and understanding and caretaking in this own… ‘prince’ way. Elle is open mind spirit, strong heart, never judging, she knows she will not fall in love with the prince but as the chateau households are match making her with the prince, where will this lead to…..

Chase of Choices by Hari Parameshwar

I got this copy as Author’s choice for honest review, it is my first completed novel written by male author. and I must say I had fun reading this novel more than I expected, loved the nickname of the characters, especially kini and kitu. This story is filled with wanting, needs, and hard time and romance.

Humans are souls, buried deep below the coloured dusts of knowledge and experiences of the consciousness, within their physical bodies. The soul, when it deserts the body, dispenses with the colours of dusts to emerge as purest of the pure light. Yet, due to a cosmic error, if it carries some of the coloured dusts with it before manifesting in another physical form, then what could be the fate of that soul? The novel, Chase of Choices, the story of a never-ending search in today s global context is recounted through Olivia, an American woman a divorcee and, mother of two who falls in love with an Indian, believing him to be the soul mate for whom her soul had longed for, since long. The story is as emotional, as inquisitive and romantic it is. Yet, at the same time, the underlying vibes are enlightening: revealing as many as 46 universal laws of human life, through 46 short chapters. Dr Hari Parameshwar, through this gripping and thrilling fiction, divulges how choices could sometimes really mess up ones life in our incessant strive to embrace balance in work, personal life and family whilst exposing the hollowness in the institution of marriage and depletion of values in family system, in utmost and brutal honesty.

My Review-

Ravi Raj Nambiar is divorced, single parent, is in search of wife through martimotal portal, who can  play mother role of his two children, especially for his daughter. in the journey of finding suitable wife, which is never ending quest, he met many choices, I mean candiates.

women is mysterious to men and its purpose mystifying, even to women. one of the prime traits of womankind is: the power of acceptance, obligations, change, pleasure, pain…..

Meenu, cute face, short hair, who is in his mind, who is interested in marrying ravi and somewhat is little strange. (I thing she have split personality). and then there is Anjali (I was secretly rooting for her with ravi), charming, with appealing eyes and a wide smile, sensible, poetess,  with child like voice and Priya menon.

But everything left aside when he got voice message from American women called Olivia Claire O’Neil, white women, with 2 children of her own, who wants to marry Indian man and settled down in India. she feels ravi is her soulmate for whom she longed for. with so many choice, who he will and should settle down with.

Scorched by His Fire by Reet Singh

My Review-

Scorched by Tanay’s fire, hats off to reet singh, her hero is not only handsome, hot and sexy but he is also loving… ok at first I hated him, then I hated him more, he was like ‘typical men’. But then his charmed showed up, he was charming, understandable, mind reader, problem solver, in short he is whole package.

If only Mita would say yes. she was only twenty-six and raring to experience life.

She don’t want to hurt her family, so to make matter under her control she makes deal with tanay, who is so want to make her his.

“For me, anyway, it was love at first sight. I saw her across the room and there was no denying it. I felt like I’d known he forever.”

Her best friend samrat’s wife laxmi is insecure of her husband’s relationship with mita, here comes the overprotective brother of her’s. Detective Tanay Devkumar suspects that samrat is having affair with mita and its his responsibility to clean ‘this type of women’ from his sister’s marriage. what he don’t know is what will happen of him if he get to close to her.
